During the medical outreach as part of activities marking National Hospital 20th anniversary

The governing board of National Hospital, Abuja, has called for improved funding to address the dilapidated infrastructure and biomedical equipment in the hospital.
The Chairman of the Board of the hospital, Olubunmi Etteh made the call at a briefing to mark the 20th anniversary of the Abuja National Hospital while beckons on the federal government to allocate more funding to the hospital as a wake up call to consolidate on the success achieved so far.
Etteh disclosed it was barely a year ago that the current Board commissioned the National Cancer Centre of the hospital.
“We have upgraded and expanded the private wing to executive private wing that could accomodate even the upper class among Nigerians, including the modern method of record keeping facilities to match “.
The Board also commends the federal government for its support, which has kept the hospital afloat despite dwindling financial resources.
The Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, Dr. Jaf Momoh re-assured Nigerians of the hospital’s renewed efforts towards quality expert care.
Speaking on Cancer Care and its management at the National hospital, Dr. Momoh said Radiotherapy is fully subsidized by the Federal Government of Nigeria, as he pledged the hospital’s determination to strengthen cancer care, treatment, and management in the hospital.
“We have been treating indigent patients with sponsorship from SNEPCO.
We have enough facilities on the ground that can take care of cancer patients, the only issue we have is that some equipment are not up to date, and in some cases, they need routine maintenance.” He said.
Momoh further admonished Nigerians to deviate from medical tourism while urged aggrieved patients who experienced poor treatment at the National hospital to lay their complaints through appropriate channels such as Servicom.
“As for our staff, we will continue to train them on regular basis on how to relate properly with patients. The utmost care of our patient is our priority.
“We We will continue to render better and qualitative medical care to Nigerians as we get enough resources.
Part of the activities to mark the 20th anniversary of National hospital is the medical outreach to Kuchingoro community in the FCT suburb, where members of the community had access to free medical care, consultation, diagnosis and testing.
Residents of the community expressed gratitude at the gesture of the Abuja National hospital for bringing health care to their doorstep.
