AEDC Takes Delivery of Personal Protective Work Wears

The safety measure of the Abuja Electricity Distribution company (AEDC) for members of its workforce spread across its operational territories has received another boost over the weekend, when the Company took delivery of personal protective work wears. The work wears, which are specifically designed to resist heat and protect staff against cold weather as well as fire include safety boots and overall.
The Managing Director/CEO of the company, Engr. Ernest Mupwaya who inspected the personal protective equipment along with some members of the executive management team of the company said the purchase of a new set of protective work wears by the company is a clear demonstration of the Company’s commitment to the priceless value it attaches to the safety of its workers.
“No matter the technology we deploy for the improvement of our service to the customers, the workers remain our biggest and most priced investment. The life of every worker remain very important to us hence we do not spare anything to ensure their safety irrespective of their trade”.
“the provision of these equipment speaks to our overall transformation agenda where staff are provided with the right work wears and tools so that they can be properly identified at any point in time and perform optimally at their workplace” Mupwaya stressed.
On his part, the Director of Risk and Compliance – Mr. Collins Chabuka whose directorate oversees the issue of safety, health and environment in the Company said staff must cultivate the habit of using the personal protective wears in demonstration of their compliance with safety regulations of the Company. He said management will frown seriously at anyone who neglects to use the protective work wears.
According to the company, the work wear is an ultra-soft flame-resistant gear of international standard, with stainless steel, permanently flame – resistance fabric woven a fine garment that suits the AEDC’s purposes fitted with reflective attachment to aid ease of location especially at night. The garments were subjected to multiple tests for quality and have a continued quality and performance after years (10 years) of washing and wearing lifespan.
“The PPE conforms to international standards, and always carry the ‘CE’ mark of quality. The condition of the PPE when arc rated at 12.4cal/cm2 will after four (4) years (approximately 300 X wash and wear) automatically increase to 16.9 cal/cm2”
