Only Fools Die for Politicians, the Case of Ogun 2019
By Admin.
Look carefully at some pictures trending on social media in the run up to the Governorship elections that was held in Ogun state. The picture was taken when Otunba Gbenga Daniel was contesting for Ogun State governorship election which he won and governed for 8 years. The two other personalities in this picture are Senator Ibikunle Amosun the outgoing governor (after 8 years) and Prince Dapo Abiodun who is the Governor-elect of Ogun state.
Key Lessons
- At the time this picture was taken, no one on the scene would perceive that he was looking at the 3 people that will govern Ogun State for the next 20-24 years. I’m almost certain that the 3 of them did not plan it that way.
- At the time this picture was taken in 2003, they were all PDP members. By 2007, Amosun had left to join ANPP, contested for governor losing against same Gbenga Daniel and ACN in 2011 to become governor heavily supported by Dapo Abiodun. Today OGD is PDP, Amosun is APM/APC and Abiodun is APC. In politics there are no ideology, no permanent alliances.
- Even though the three worked assiduously together to get OGD elected in 2003, OGD did not support Amosun in 2011 and did everything to frustrate his governorship ambition but Amosun won. Fast forward to 2019 and Amosun did everything to frustrate Abiodun’s ambition to succeed him. Yet Abiodun is coasting to victory. That you helped someone in the past is no guarantee that they will reciprocate the gesture.
Don’t be surprised in future seeing the three aligning together for a common interest as it happened when Gbenga Daniel aligned with Dapo Abiodun against Amosun’s candidate. Unfortunately in the course of the past 16 years, some poor fellas have lost their lives fighting for these ones; some have destroyed relationships because of them. You are the biggest fool when you destroy relationships in the course of supporting politicians especially in Nigeria.
